I’m Christopher Marr, and this site exists because of a gap I spent forty-five years not understanding.

The short version

Working-class kid who became middle-class when my dad started traveling for work. I built companies, sold some, folded others, and spent years performing as an extrovert while quietly going numb after every event and wondering what was wrong with me. Nothing was wrong with me. I’m introverted and wired differently, and I didn’t find that out until I was forty-five — around the same time I watched my own child understand himself with an ease I’d never managed. Functionally Unemployable lives in the gap between those two facts.

What I’ve built

I’ve founded a lot of companies, exited three, and folded about as many — the honest ratio nobody prints on a banner. These days I run txp-labs, an AI-driven software development and product house, where I get to build many things at once — which, as one chapter of Functionally Unemployable confesses, is both my superpower and my trap.

Gairm

I also run a nonprofit called Gairm — an educational nonprofit for veterans and people with significant disabilities. The aim is to train them and, to begin with, employ them in the contact centers I run for federal-government and commercial clients: real work, real wages, built around what a person can do rather than what a form says they can’t. If you’ve read the book, you’ll know why this one matters to me. I write a great deal about being “wired differently,” and I try never to mistake my own, comparatively workable hand for the far harder ones other people are dealt. Gairm is where that belief stops being a sentence in a book and turns into a paycheck.

The books

I’m writing in two lanes. Functionally Unemployable is the non-fiction: part memoir, part field guide. The fiction is the Foldpair Saga — five books for younger readers, beginning with Forge Lightning — carrying the same idea forward: not broken, awake.

The rest of me

I’m a dad of two (thirteen and eleven), and this year my wife and I mark twenty years married. Most of what I’ve learned about boundaries, presence, and breaking the cycles you inherit, I learned at home — usually the hard way — and a good deal of it ended up in the book.

If one line holds all of it together, it’s the one the whole project is built on: you’re not broken. You’re wired a certain way — and once you know how, you can build almost anything around it.
