Liora and Eamon Ryn were torn from one home into two wagons — a sister who calls down lightning, a brother whose only gift is listening to steel. The Council called them dangerous. What they were was a foldpair: two people whose magic answers each other, a bond so rare the Council has spent forty years learning how to break one.

Three years later, Eamon deserts the army to find the sister he’s never stopped feeling at the edge of his mind. But the Council didn’t just cage Liora — they’ve been changing her, feeding her a darkness that now whispers in her own voice. When a map that answers to their blood draws them both to Anvil Valley, brother and sister walk straight into a trap built for exactly the thing they are.

To break free, they’ll have to do what no foldpair has survived: forge together — not in perfect harmony, but in honest, scarred discord. And to attempt the one feat the old stories swore was impossible — to pour the storm through the steel and forge lightning itself.

Broken doesn’t mean ruined. It means ready to be reforged.
